And for one brief shining moment all the worries and troubles of the world were gone. The picture of our smiles says it all.

Finally, a Good Venezuelan Shower
Personally, I’d hate to see the US invade Venezuela. But then my granddaughters are all in the US. Funny how human nature works. You can justify just about anything as long as it’s somebody else suffering or you’re benefiting from the injustice.
A Hurricane is Brewing in My Heart
My wife and I fell in love at Disney Springs. I remember the exact moment. It was during the 3rd song we danced to played by one of the various bands set up around the lake. Since that first night, I've often wondered why these musicians haven't become household names. They sound as good, maybe better, than the musicians performing on the award shows. Valentine's night Mary and I returned to Disney Springs. My old buddy Jack Daniels was talking to me as Mary and I enjoyed the sounds of Mighty Swell, who played in an open venue on the sidewalk, and Crystal at the bar next to Planet Hollywood, when the thought occurred to me that all these musicians were missing was their own original music. So as we sat listening to Crystal's clear, ringing voice, I wrote the female version of the poem/lyrics that follow. While I was writing I was getting a lot of encouragement from my old buddy Jack. I was sure I'd penned a #1 hit Valentine's night. Not so sure now. But maybe you'll enjoy and maybe, just maybe, someone will put it to music. Wouldn't that be grand?
I’m Married to a Venezuelan Immigrant
We look at the extreme example of Venezuela and think that could never happen here. Venezuelans thought the same thing, just ask my brothers-in-law.
The Christmas Shit Storm
My wife and I had come from South Georgia to Central Florida to help out with Mom and Dad so my sister, who provides care for my parents, could finally take a guilt free, well earned trip with her husband to ski in Vermont. Dad is incontinente and suffers from late stage Alzheimer's. He can … Continue reading The Christmas Shit Storm
West Virginia Road Trip
The welcome signs to West Virginia read, "Almost Heaven...Wild and Wonderful". But as I drive deeper into the heart of coal country the signs begin to conjure up the lyrics of the Eagle's song Hotel California, "this could be heaven or this could be hell."“It’s crazy, October the 14th and the leaves have hardly begun to change,” … Continue reading West Virginia Road Trip
The First Time Grandma Died or I Could Have Been Governor and a Millionaire
This is the story I intended to tell at the 2018 West Virginia Liars Contest but didn't qualify because I'm no longer a resident. Since I drove 800 miles to get there and had a large contingent of supporters in the audience, the judges graciously allowed me to warm up the crowd as a prelude … Continue reading The First Time Grandma Died or I Could Have Been Governor and a Millionaire
Success in the Turkey Woods
We’re all familiar with the saying, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey that counts.” As we grow older, and hopefully wiser, we learn the sentiment in ways a younger person can’t possibly understand. However, we still long for the sweetness of reaching the destination regardless of age. Otherwise, why even begin or bother with … Continue reading Success in the Turkey Woods
Between Encounters of the 4th and 5th Kind
“A little frustration is healthy,” I reminded Mary. “It will make the success of bagging your first, big tom all that much sweeter. It can only be spoiled if you give up or do something unethical in the meantime.” She was frustrated, yes, but more determined than ever to get her bird. I called in … Continue reading Between Encounters of the 4th and 5th Kind
